Clarendon County Directory
Every office and body in the county, what each is custodian of, when it meets, and where agendas and minutes are posted.
Who governs, which office holds which record, and where to send a request. Every fact on this page is sourced and dated at the bottom.
Council/Administrator means the elected Council sets policy and a hired administrator runs day-to-day operations. It matters for records because the Council's decisions live in agendas and minutes, while the operational paper — contracts, invoices, correspondence — sits with departments under the administrator.
The office names are taken from the county's own site. The record types beside them describe what each office typically holds in a South Carolina county — confirm with the office before assuming a specific document sits there.
A municipality keeps its own records and holds its own meetings. If what you want was decided by a town, the county cannot answer for it — and a request sent to the county will usually just stop.
Unincorporated communities in the county include Alcolu, Rimini and Silver. These have no town government of their own — records about them sit with the county or with a special purpose district.
Clarendon County, the City of Manning, the school district, the DSN board and any special purpose district are separate public bodies. Each answers for its own records. The most common reason a request here goes nowhere is that it was sent to the county for something the county never held.
Ask for minutes, agenda packets, contracts, invoices, correspondence — with a date range and the department you think holds them. A request phrased as a question can be answered truthfully with "no responsive record."
